Capacity Building Workshop for the Public Independent Conciliator Staff in the North-West and South-West Regions on Budget Management

The staff of the Office Public Independent Conciliator for the North-West and South-West Regions were invited for a capacity building workshop on Program Budgeting under the supervision of the Head of Division for budget preparation and coordination of the Public Independent Conciliators of the North-West and South-West Regions.

As part of strengthening capacities of staff from both institutions, a workshop was organized by the Ministry of Finance from June 23 to June 29, 2024 under the patronage of his excellency Minister Louis Paul Motaze which held in Limbe with the main objective of building on the elaboration and execution of the Public Independent Conciliators Budget.

To attain the objective, presentations were done in 5 modules;

• General Framework for Public Finance Management;
• Preparations of the programme budget in a public entity;
• General framework for the execution of the budgetary operations;
• Financial reporting in the PIC office and
• Maturation of Public Investment Projects

The Public Independent Conciliator for the North-West Region was satisfied and appreciated the participation and engagement of participants throughout the workshop, which he termed as an enriching experience through the knowledge shared, insights and tips to make work at the office easier. The discussions, the interactive exercises enriched the knowledge of participants. According to Mr. TAMFU Simon FAI, Public Independent Conciliator North-West Region, staff from both PIC institutions should better perform in budget management after such an enrich workshop.

On one hand, The Public Independent for the South-West Region found the training as timely, as it provided cannons for State Budgeting and financial management. She revealed that Staff expectations of PIC South-West Region have been met.

The Directorate General of Preparation of the Budget, listened to Public Independent Conciliators of the North-West and South-West Regions pledging to apply the skills and knowledge gathered, though the Public Independent Conciliators asked to be guided through the process, especially during the elaboration of the 2025 budget.

Both institutions expressed the desire to have more workshops in the future to be able to master matters on Program budgeting.

The Minister of Finance, Louis Paul Motaze was appreciated for the workshop initiative, with gratitude to facilitators. Both institutions decided stay connected and keep their network open in order for staff skills to flourish better, for better performance.
