Mayor of Ndu Council presents Clean City Award to PIC NW
Ndu Council Mayor, Abdou Kanfon Borno and his Management team were guests to The Public Independent Conciliator North-West Region, Mr. TAMFU Simon FAI on July 8th,2025. They came to present the Clean City Award worth over 40million CFA which Ndu Council won this year. Although the council emerged 7th in the National Finals, it was the first in the North-West Region.
The Public Independent Conciliator was delighted about the win by Ndu Council and remarked “Winning is easy but keeping the win is difficult, last year was Nkambe and this time is You, Ndu Council”.
The Public Independent Conciliator proceeded to brief the visitors about the mission and vision of the Office, and shared some insights on the organigram of the office, top staff of the office, the job descriptions of some key positions and how things are done in the office.
In conclusion, The Public Independent Conciliator emphasized that his Office doors are open to receive complaints about council functioning in the North-West Region and to solve them amicably.
Ndu Council topped the classification of the Clean City Competition in the North-West and South-West Regions, after winning the “My name contest” launched by BUNEC and UNICEF together with other partners, that helped the council to issue free birth certificates to many children.
The Mayor of Ndu introduced his team to the PIC and also remarked that success would not have been attained, if not for sensitization from the Office of the Public Independent Conciliator, North-West Region.
Mayor Kanfon Borno confessed,
“If we had entered this contest before the creation of the OPIC, I don’t think we would have won. The office has played a major role, creating a great impact on our population through radio programs, the sensitization steam has been well digested by the population. This is observed in the way the people of Ndu are now collaborating with the Ndu Council in almost everthing. The council has made use of the ministerial decision of MINNDEVEL encouraging councils to create village and neighborhood committees. Ndu has done so and has had seminars with them. It is through these committees that the population was mobilized to win the Clean city contest. The success is not just felt at the level of Ndu town but the whole of Ndu subdivision”.
The Mayor also revealed that Ndu Council has 17 villages which all participated in the Clean Village contest to encourage good hygiene and sanitation habits in the municipality.
The 2025 Clean City Contest in Cameroon is an annual competition organized by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development to recognize the cleanest municipalities.
The competition aims to promote hygiene and sanitation, encourage citizen participation in environmental preservation, and support local sanitation initiatives.
The contest spans divisional, regional, and national levels, with winners at each level receiving substantial prizes. The criteria for judging include urban development aspects like gutter cleaning, building frontage decoration, tree pruning, waste management, and green space development.
