North-West Public Independent Conciliator urges MBOSCUDA to actively participate in local governance, development

The Office of the Public Independent Conciliator in the North-West Region conducted an outreach sensitization visit to the Mbororo Social and Cultural Development Association (MBOSCUDA) in Bamenda on Wednesday, 14 August 2024.



During the visit, esteemed experts, including Dr. Alfred Wuku, Research Officer no. 4, Mme Nina Ambuban, Research Officer no 5, and Mr. Ngodji Rais, Executive Officer no. 1, delivered insightful presentations on the crucial role of citizens in local governance and development, emphasizing the need for active participation.

The purpose of this visit was to educate and inform the Mbororo community about the services offered by the Office of the Public Independent Conciliator and to underscore the importance of citizens’ involvement in council affairs.

In response, the President of MBOSCUDA, Barrister Unusa Karimu, expressed appreciation to the Public Independent Conciliator for their inclusive approach in carrying out their missions. Members of the association voiced their concerns about the Mbororo community being excluded from various regional projects and initiatives.
In a constructive spirit, they suggested the formation of a group for Mbororo youths to facilitate their engagement in council activities and requested updates on council activities within their municipalities.

Furthermore, during a question and answer session, specific issues were raised, including challenges related to the issuance of Civil Status Documents for women in the community. The members of MBOSCUDA sought assistance from the experts of the Public Independent Conciliator’s Office to ensure that councils adhere to the law, particularly regarding obtaining birth certificates for children born at home.
