PIC North-West Organizes Annual Governance Fair, Celebrates Five Years of Service

The Office of the Public Independent Conciliator (PIC) of the North-West Region has organized its Annual Governance Fair as part of activities commemorating the 5th Anniversary of the Functioning of the Office of the Public Independent Conciliator of the North-West Region.

The event took place on Wednesday, 8 July 2026, at the Auditorium of the Office of the Public Independent Conciliator in Bamenda Station. It brought together representatives of public institutions, local authorities, traditional and religious authorities, civil society organizations, development partners, and other stakeholders to promote good governance, accountability, transparency, and quality public service delivery.

Five years after the pioneer Public Independent Conciliator took the oath of office on 8 July 2021, the institution reflected on a journey marked by both challenges and achievements. Despite operating in a difficult socio-political environment, the Office has continued to promote administrative justice, protect citizens’ rights, and strengthen good governance across the North-West Region.

To commemorate the milestone, three Research Officers delivered presentations highlighting the Office’s major achievements over the past five years.

The first presentation, delivered by Mr. Ndi Nelson, Research Officer No. 1, focused on the campaigns and field activities of the Office of the Public Independent Conciliator. The second presentation, by Mrs. Nina Ambuban, Research Officer No. 3, examined the institution’s mass media sensitization and public outreach programmes. The third presentation, delivered by Dr. Alfred Wuku Kudi, Research Officer No. 4, showcased the work and achievements of the Protection Unit in safeguarding the rights of vulnerable persons and resolving citizens’ grievances.

Stakeholders also took the floor to assess the impact of the Office over the past five years. They commended both the leadership of the pioneer Public Independent Conciliator and the institution’s contribution to improving governance and public service delivery in the North-West Region.

Among the speakers was the Coordinator of Persons Living Disabilities, who expressed satisfaction with the Memorandum of Understanding between SEEPD and the Office of the Public Independent Conciliator, noting that the partnership has amplified the voices of persons with disabilities and promoted their inclusion in governance processes.

Representatives of the Ministry of Decentralization and Local Development (MINDDEVEL) and the National Civil Status Registration Office (BUNEC) equally praised the strong collaboration they have enjoyed with the Office, observing that the partnership has facilitated effective engagement with councils across the region.

A representative of the United Councils and Cities of Cameroon (UCCC) also applauded the Office’s efforts, stating that many councils now demonstrate greater respect for legal procedures and better compliance with the law, particularly in the free issuance of civil status documents.

The event concluded with a Governance Fair during which state institutions, partner organizations, and guests visited exhibition stands showcasing the services and achievements of the Office of the Public Independent Conciliator and its partners, including SEEPD, BUNEC, and the North-West Regional Assembly. Through brochures, newsletters, magazines, flyers, and other information materials, exhibitors provided participants with greater insight into their mandates, programmes, and services aimed at improving governance and serving the people of the North-West Region.
