PIC NW Female Staff Mark International Women’s Day 2026 with Advocacy, Sports and Support to Women with Disabilities
The posture highlights that investing time, resources, knowledge, and visibility in women, yields reciprocal benefits, fostering stronger, more inclusive communities, economies, and organizations where everyone rises.
Female staff of the Office of the Public Independent Conciliator of the North-West Region (PIC NW) are joining women across Cameroon to commemorate the 41st edition of International Women’s Day (IWD) on March 8, 2026, under the theme “Justice for all women and girls.”
The theme underscores the urgency of rights protection and access to justice amid growing concerns over gender-based violence and rising cases of femicide.
In the lead-up to the celebration, PIC NW female staff rolled out a series of activities combining advocacy, community outreach, sports, and public sensitization. On the sporting front, the team recorded a convincing 10–2 victory against women of CAMWATER, before advancing to the finals where they narrowly lost 15–13 to Cameroon Police women, who emerged champions.
Beyond sports, the staff paid a solidarity visit to selected women and girls living with disabilities, offering practical support including sewing machines and sanitary towels, while sensitizing beneficiaries on their rights and available protection mechanisms.
The outreach formed part of a broader commitment to inclusion and bottom-up engagement.
The women also visited the Creative Center for Women and Girls with Disabilities, where discussions focused on the mandate of the Public Independent Conciliator and its relevance to the 2026 IWD theme.
Beneficiaries expressed appreciation for the visit, describing it as a concrete demonstration of inclusive strategies embedded in the office’s action plan.
The delegation comprised Madam Nina Ambuban (Research Officer No. 3), Ms. Fongwa Kesten (Complaint Management Officer No. 1), Ms. Abdu Emmaculate (Administrative Officer), and Ms. Ndefru Melanie (Communication Officer), who represented the office as part of the activities preceding IWD in Bamenda.
Public education remains central to the week’s program. Radio discussions are scheduled to spotlight women with disabilities—their strengths and challenges—alongside conversations with indigenous girls and women.
During these broadcasts, PIC experts will unpack the 2026 theme and demonstrate its alignment with the mission of the Public Independent Conciliator.
Additional activities include an outdoor exhibition to further sensitize the public on the role and mission of the PIC, culminating in participation in the official march-past on the celebration day.
The 2026 theme comes against a sobering backdrop, with reports indicating 69 femicide cases in 2024—representing a 23.2% increase from 2023. It emphasizes strengthening legal protections, advancing equality, and ensuring justice across social and economic spheres, while building on recent global themes such as 2025’s “For all women and girls: rights, equality, and empowerment” and 2024’s “Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress.”
