Safety Net Project team visits PIC, anticipates joint effort for population’s benefit
On Thursday, March 7, 2024, a Safety Net project team visited the Office of the Public Independent Conciliator of the North-West Region, to present a summary report of the Adaptive Safety Net Project.
Some of the objectives and goals of the Safety Net Project tie with the Missions of the Office of the Public Independent Conciliator of the North-West Region, in line with serving the local population.
The Office of the Public Independent Conciliator deals with the local masses which cannot be separated from their council areas. The question of how involved are councils in identifying poor people remains the bone of contention.
The Safety Net Project team, through their presentation at the Office of the Public Independent Conciliator of the North-West Region, emphasized the role of traditional rulers in communities in ensuring that the common man gets all the support they need.

The project also mentioned a Civil Status tracking program. This is an area the Office of the Public Independent Conciliator of the North-West Region is dwelling on and making a great impact, ensuring that the local masses have access to these civil status documents free of charge.
The question of how to manage persons with special needs was another area of interest. Mr Kanjo, the coordinator of the project says some partners are available in charge of these groups of people and that 15% of every 1,000 households there are people with special needs.
The essence of the presentation done by the Safety Project team was to establish a partnership with the Office of the Public Independent Conciliator of the North-West Region to serve the local population of the North-West Region.
