The Public Independent Conciliator Evaluates Mid-Year Performance of North-West Councils
Tamfu Simon Fai, Public Independent Conciliator of the North-West Region has described a s satisfactory the performance of councils in the first half of 2024.
He was speaking at a midterm evaluation workshop organized by the Office of the Public Independent Conciliator North-West Region on July 02, 2024. The workshop was organized to discuss and exchange views on the challenges Regional and Council Authorities faced in the discharge of their duties during the first half of 2024.
Dr. Alfred Wuku Kudi, Research Officer no. 4, in the lone presentation at the workshop revealed the progress observed in the North-West councils in the first half of 2024. He pointed out shortcomings observed in areas of establishing civil status documents, salaries of council workers and financial sourcing, Council projects and communication on council activities.
Mayors were also briefed on observations made as regards the reception and treatment of complaints at the Office of the Public Independent Conciliator. According to the expert, most times the delay in the treatment of some complaints are created by Mayors themselves who deliberately fail to honor invitations.
The workshop was an opportunity to school mayors on the role of the Public Independent Conciliator in Council functioning. They were informed that the PIC is constantly monitoring council functioning and the relations between council and citizens.Mayors christened the Public Independent Conciliator as the brainchild of rural development in the North-West Region. They called the workshop “a family meeting” and were comfortable to discuss their challenges with the Public Independent Conciliator. They appreciated the work and results produced by the Office on the state of Council functioning in the North-West Region.
