North-West Public Independent Conciliator Publishes 2024 Annual Report

The Office of the Public Independent Conciliator of the North-West Region has published its 2024 Annual Report in Bamenda at a ceremony attended among others by the President of the Regional Assembly, and media professionals.

The report was published Friday, 28 February 2025, 21 days after submitting the report to the President of the Republic on 7th February 2025.
The report x-rays the functioning of regional and local authorities and their relations with citizens.
According to Section 367(3) paragraph 6 of Law No. 2019/24 of 24 December 2019, “The Public Independent Conciliator in the North-West and South-West Regions shall be responsible for preparing a report on the functioning of regional and council services.”
As per Article 25(1) of Decree No. 2020/773 of 24 December 2020 to lay down conditions for the discharge of duties of Public Independent Conciliator in the North-West and South-West regions, “The Public Independent Conciliator shall submit to the President of the Republic an annual report on the state of relations between citizens and regional and council services. The report shall present the balance sheet of his activities.”
The report is presented in six parts. It highlights the activities of the Public Independent Conciliator of the North-West Region from January to December 2024. It narrates key activities carried out, examines the functioning of regional and local authorities and their relations with citizens, underscores major challenges faced, and captures perspectives and recommendations for better performance in 2025.

Pressmen and women posed questions on areas where they had preoccupations in the 2024 Annual Report as reflected in the Statement of the Public Independent Conciliator.

A representative of MINDDEVEL, Lionnel Manga was satisfied with data from the Annual Report but was curious about perspectives for 2025, after observing that local development begins with citizens’ participation.
The PIC announced that the Office shall front a campaign on Good Governance in regional and local authorities in 2025.
The Public Independent Conciliator reiterated that work is ongoing to fill the Special Status with content.
The Office of the Public Independent Conciliator will continue to uphold its autonomy, and stand firm to promote the values and missions of the institution and as the incarnate of the institution.
