PIC, Council Executives brainstorm to strengthen collaboration, promote good governance in Council

The session took place under the chairmanship of the Public Independent Conciliator of the North-West Region, TAMFU Simon FAI on Thursday, 5th December 2024 in the auditorium of the Office of the Public Independent Conciliator.

Mr. Mbah Mbole, the Regional Delegate of MINNDEVEL did a presentation on the Principles of effective local council administration and Management; Administrative Deontology, Transparency, and Accountability.

Mr. Shey Henry Nganji, a seasoned local administrator, did a presentation on Participatory management in Regional and Council Administration; Roles and Responsibilities of Regional and Council Executives.
Both facilitators made their presentations very interactive by discussing with participants on the nitty gritty in councils that prevents their smooth functioning.
Mayors, Secretaries General, and Municipal Treasurers, discussed in-camera and revealed to the Public Independent Conciliator some administrative bottlenecks faced at their respective levels.
The purpose of the workshop was to enhance collaboration and a harmonious working culture, particularly between Council Mayors, Secretaries General, and Municipal Treasurers. Effective coordination among these key Officials is crucial for efficient local governance and service delivery.

The Public Independent Conciliator saw the need to identify the challenges in the current working relationship between these council executives, develop strategies for improved communication and collaboration, foster collaboration for better service delivery, and also establish a framework for ongoing cooperation and coordination of council services.
Participants left the workshop with the understanding of the legal text regulating council functioning, understand their different roles and how to blend to ensure harmonious functioning of council administration, have the skill to formulate effective strategies to improve working relationships in council administration and establish a platform for problem-solving amongst Municipal Executives to better serve the population of the North-West Region.
