PIC NW trains Volunteers; CBAs, SEEPD and Safety Net Field Agents
The Office of the Public Independent Conciliator has embarked on a three-day workshop for Community Based Volunteers to equip them to serve as deserving and credible relay agents for the actions of the Public Independent Conciliator in your community
Focus on this training is not only to raise public awareness about the mission and mandate of the Public Independent Conciliator, but also to prepare them for the campaign to promote citizens’ participation in local development and governance, as well as the upcoming perception survey on the functioning of regional and council authorities of the region.
Following perception surveys organized over the last two years, the Public Independent Conciliator observed that citizens do not adequately participate in regional or council affairs or decision-making processes affecting their development and welfare, as part of its missions to realize its missions of promoting local development, democracy and good governance, regional and local authorities are expected to work in synergy with the population and community-based organization.
This activity aligns with the mission of the Public Independent Conciliator of defending and protecting rights and freedoms of citizens in their relationship with the Region or the councils of the Region, as well as, design and implement measures to prevent and combat any direct or indirect discrimination against users of regional or council services.
The Public Independent Conciliator, Mr. TAMFU Simon FAI said no one will be left behind on the Campaign to Promote Citizen’s participation in Local Development and that this time the institution will be more inclusive in its approach, thanks to the Memorandum of Understanding signed with CBCHS/SEEPD. He further explained that the survey for 2024 will again cover all 35 councils in the North-West Region, but this time Community Based Assistants will be working in collaboration with Safety Net and SEEPD Field Agents.
During the three-day workshop, Participants were drilled on; the key areas to focus on while disseminating messages on the Campaign on Citizen’s Participation in Local Developments, how to administer questionnaires when conducting the survey and safety/security tips they must take into consideration while on the field.
For day one, the Dr. Atia Tilarious, Research Officer no. 3 presented on the Missions, Organization and Functioning of the Office of the Public Independent Conciliator. Later he did another presentation on Briefings on the Campaign to Promote Citizens’ Participation in Local Development and Governance. Mr. Ngodji Rais, Executive Officer n0. 1 presented on the Complaint Management Mechanism of the Office of the Public Independent Conciliator.
The third presentation was done by Mr. Ndi Nelson, Research Officer no. 1, on the Participation in Development and Governance; The WHY and the HOW and the Rights and duties of citizens to participate in regional and council affairs
Mme. Nina Ambuban, Research Officer no. 5, presented on The Role of Community-Based volunteers (PIC/CBAs, SEEPD and Safety Net field agents) in the PIC campaign; How to communicate the PIC campaign messages and the Dos and Don’ts.
Participants were also briefed on the Role Play the need to play and how to communicate campaign messages.
